Red Lips

I have always considered my face to not be one that was made for red lipstick. Did you know that the darker the shade, the smaller your lips and the bigger your cheeks appear? It's a sad truth I found out years ago while secretly playing "grown-up" with my mother's make-up in her bathroom. Since then, I never, ever, EVER considered applying that luscious shade to my lips again. Until now. The truth I realized years ago remains to be the same, however little did I know that there are different shades of red. (hooray!) Some are light and bright, some are dark and mystifying. I tried two different shades the other day... One is brighter, and the other is darker.

Anyway. I'm just thrilled that I can wear red lips without looking like the tacky ol' lady from next door.

pics were taken on my phone camera. Not the greatest quality.. I know.

Stella McCartney for GAP Kids

Fresh.

Everyone assumes I'm going to dress my future babies with the ultimate swag from head to toe. I respond by telling them I'm going to make 'em look SUUUUPER tacky and mad ridiculous with the ugliest haircuts. (hahahahahahahahaha) But in actuality, these clothes are too cute to NOT dress your kids in... If only I had some rugrats of my own. ....Maybe I should find a man first, yea?

He's tall
He's tan
He has a potty mouth
He's middle-aged and wears an earring
He drinks just about all of the time
He loves food
He cooks food
He has interesting things to say
He has a dry sense of humor
His swagger is out of this world
He's so bad ass... gosh.

Restaurant De Kas - Amsterdam

I've been having blogger's block for a good minute...

...And I still have blogger's block. haha!

Hmm oh well. I guess you're just going to have to deal with my random blurbs for now... hehe.

This place is called Restaurant De Kas, and it resides in Amsterdam. Ever since I read an article about this greenhouse-turned-restaurant/reception hall, I've been patiently, and anxiously, waiting for an opportunity to see it with my own eyes. It seems like I will finally get my chance come March! :) Isn't it pretty? There's something about the interior of this place that appears 'alive', don't you think so? The white wire-y ball fixtures remind me of a dream-like fun house... Kinda cool, huh?

November 27. Read up on details....

Hanging Stove

The weather is colder and the chill becomes almost an emotion. I need gloves in the morning just so I don't have to watch them turn ghastly pale with red splotches from the morning cool. It's not a pretty sight. This only reminds me of what my friends would say: Cuddle?

I came across this really uber cool hanging stove. There is something about it that draws me in... Perhaps it's that fire. I'm sitting at my desk at work and the A/C is on blast so this image is very comforting. But on the real though... I want one. In my room. And keep it all to myself. bwahaha I'm a glutton in so many ways ;P

Lake house in Montauk, NY

I need a vacay. So very, very badly. It's been so long I think I've forgotten what it's like to actually go somewhere away from this emo city of mine. I'm thinking.. New York!!! It's been a year since I last visited and it's about time I visit my future home again. :)

UPF ______ (insert color here)

When I was younger, I didn't care about UV-Rays and skin damage and applying anything with UPF __ (insert number here) because I had skin that was as tight as a drum head, as smooth as a baby's bottom, and as clean/wrinkle-free as a the shell of an egg. However those days are over. I am aware that I can no longer go out the door without protecting my skin, and believe it or not I am aware that I can no longer tan without the image of an aged, orange-pigment, wrinkly old face haunting me every time I hit the bed. So today... I am doing all that I can to protect myself from those nasty rays that encourage my skin to turn disgugly (that's disgusting and ugly put together; clever, huh? Yes, I already know.) UNFORTUNATELY!!!!!! UPF whatever is not enough. Get ready, kids.. cause this is going to stress you out (or maybe that's just me; I hear stress causes wrinkles...): NOW you have to protect your skin from UV-Rays by the color of clothing you wear!! O.O .....WHAT THE?! The darker the color you wear, the more protection you are giving your skin. What... You don't believe me? READ. Good thing I love to wear black all day everyday every damn day.

The World In Vogue

For me it's not so much the famous faces that will be shown inside this book, but more for the photographs. I just can't get enough of the works of Mario Testino, Steven Meisel, Irving Penn, Cecil Beaton, Patrick Demarchelier, Annie Leibovitz, etc... Their photographs are all so marveilluxe. This edition comes out November 17. For a preview, look HERE.

Metric "Live It Out" Acoustic

I love love love Emily Haines. She's the genius behind the band Metric; If you have taken the time to actually listen to the lyrics of their songs, you will understand what I mean by 'genius'. This song is one of my favorites in their third album "Live It Out", which by the way went Platinum in Canada. Oh yea... They're Canadian. If you didn't know, now you do :) So as I was saying, it's one of my faves and became MORE of a favorite when I heard the acoustic version. A bit melodramatic but what else can you expect from me?! mehehe.

What does it mean to 'live it out'? Everyone's interpretation varies... To me, it means to take a chance at life; To live up to the expectations of what He has set for me. It's so much easier to stay behind and do only what I know, but why would I limit myself when there is a possibility that the whole world can be mine? Not literally... of course, even though ruling all the kingdoms of the Earth would be totally, insanely awesome. Live it out. I'm gonna live it out. And so should you.

Gaultier for Target

If you haven't noticed already, high fashion runway designers have been collaborating with Target to design clothes for cheap and that are chic. Jean Paul Gaultier has just confirmed that he will be designing for Target's Designer Collaboration, following Alexander McQueen and Anna Sui. Go International is also a cheap and chic Target line that designers have designed for, such as Rodarte, Proenza Schouler, Alice Temperley, and about ten or so others on the list. Gaultier will be designing using American pop culture as muse, and will be available in March. I <3>

"Annie Hall" scenes

'Annie Hall' (1977) is one of my favorite films directed by Woody Allen. This movie is absolutely brilliant and ever so entertaining. Some of you have asked me how I came up with "LURVE". If you keep watching the clip, you'll figure out how and why :) Also, I love love LOVE Diane Keaton's look. If you haven't seen this film, go to the nearest Blockbuster, or Hollywood (whichever you prefer), and check it out. You can't ever go wrong with any of Woody's films. Enjoy!

Rihanna's New Single "Russian Roulette"

I heard this song on the radio this morning on the way to work, and I kind of have mixed feelings about it. I usually like the material she's been coming out with lately, but this one (written by Ne-Yo) seems to be somewhat plain and sounds like there's something missing. It's also a little reminiscent of early to mid-90's pop slow jams, which is kinda cool I guess since some of the newer music today are bringing the old vibes back. I like the lyrics and the intense/dramatic beat in the back, and yes I am aware that it is v. emo. Anticipating on the music video... You can't really understand the music until you watch the vid; Sometimes there's a hidden meaning you can't hear just by listening to it. I'm hoping there's going to be a remix of it coming out soon, though. What do you think? Yay, Nay, or Eh?

"A Story" // xoxo, big sis <3

(Censored version)

Boy meets girl it's a routine bound to happen
She's kinda shy but he thinks it's nothin
to be thinkin of changin the way she sits walks eats talks
It's not to be mistaken that she is to be his maiden

Date number one was the magic that happened
Could not overlook the truth of definitely wrappin
up his free life of bitches for days ain't no way
he was gonna miss his chance to see this girl go another way

At first timid to start on this life of two thinkin
not sure where on this journey he would take her to
Hesitant enough she thinks he might be a temp
Still givin in she walks the line of faith into what could be permanent

Week one, week two, week three went by
Before he knew it exchanged were the three words that weren't no lie
Tumbling down went the facade of a player
There was no mistake he truly did love her

The future he would say is for them to seize for their own
Love Life Marriage and Family
Those were the words he promised unconditionally
Though far away the promises were he pursued further to make it a reality

At first timid to start on this life of two
but now confident of this journey he would take her to
Convinced enough she knows he's not a temp
Givin in she walks the line of faith into what could be permanent

Over the hills and past the rivers he goes
Not behind him is his lady but by his side is she marching
to the rhythm that he holds to be the only true happiness he's known
A million miles got nothin on his passion for the love of his woman

Four seasons go like Wacko Jacko and his unexpected withdrawal
Warm was the winter and cool was the summer than the one before
Goodbye Sayonara Au revoir were the words he meant to say
but a coward is he to manipulate her in his make-believe ways

To think that such a man of integrity and honesty would dwell in hypocrisy
Madness is an understatement; he would agree
Lies Lies they were all Lies
What a fool was she to have loved a man who failed miserably

To tell her one thing and do exactly what he said he could not do
Playing mind games is a selfish thing to choose
To hate someone more than she loved seemed unachievable
It's more than likely he's proved her wrong

When you told me you didn't deserve me
and that you weren't worth it because I deserved the best of the best
and that I am someone who should never settle for less...
You know what, you couldn't have been more right.

Jo Koy sang me the birthday song :)

So here's how it all went down:

Jo Koy is one of my favorite stand-up comedians, and I really wanted to go to his show back in May or something when he came to perform at the Parlor. I missed it cause the tickets were all sold out. Then, I found out that he was going to come again in September to perform at the Moore Theater. I missed that one too. I have a friend, Fred, who's brother promotes for certain events, and it so happened that his brother knows JK, and Fred will be hanging out with the man before the show. Knowing this, I begged and begged Fred to take a photo of JK and send it to me. Instead of taking a photo for me, he decided it would be a better idea to show JK the text conversation that he was having with me about how much I think the guy's funny, and how badly I wanted to go to his show, and how I was begging Fred to take a snap shot of the comedian while telling him that I didn't care if he looked like a creeper cause I just wanted one. How utterly humiliating. So then later, I get a text late late late LATE at night from Fred saying: "You're gonna be so excited when you find out what I just did for you." Then the next day, I sign on to Facebook like I do everyday, and what do I find? A video which I'm tagged. I see the video... and voila! It's Jo Koy singing 'Happy Birthday' to me!!!! Thanks to Alfred Eng, the coolest buddy ever, Jo Koy sang 'Happy Birthday' to me because I couldn't go to his show when he was in town back in September. This made me cheese for days. Thanks Fred!!!!!! :D

Jay-Z concert Vids

I apologize for the occasional blur. Like I mentioned before.. I need a new camera :T

Jay-Z Concert

Went to the Jay-Z Concert yesterday and it was pretty awesome. Had dinner with some friends at The Brooklyn beforehand, and let me tell you: steak was clutch. Don't you love it when your experience at a restaurant the second time is just as good -- and even better -- than the first time? Ordered the Steak Oscar (no picture). Was gonna order the Carpetbagger Steak again, but decided to try something new. If you haven't been this restaurant yet, you should check it out. The bar menu isn't so bad either :) I didn't take as many photos as I hoped to. I think I need a new camera.. the one I have is about 2 years old and it's not doing the job I would like it to do anymore. Hmmm, maybe a new D-SLR?! I think it's about time ;) If you have any suggestions, and ones that won't break my card, I would love to hear 'em. Unless you want me to get ripped off.. now what kind of friend would you be to let that happen to me?! :P Anyway, just a few selected photos from the concert... Videos will be posted later :)

Lady GaGa

As many of you know by now, Lady GaGa is not your ordinary blonde songbird. She is a diva in her own category, dresses by her own rules, and even down to her physical size is she unordinary, which is exactly why I love her so much and thinks she is one of the most original artists to take America by storm. She puts together fashion and inspiration and takes it to an entirely different level. I admire her for her courage and the willingness to really go out there and make a statement. Her performance at the 2009 MTV VMA was definitely unforgettable and to say the least, interesting (that being an understatement) and maybe just a little bit disturbing. But I think it is a matter of interpretation. Taken quite literally, and you're going to question if she is sane in the brain. But if you take it as an art piece, you start to ask yourself: What is it that she's trying to say? But to clear something up, not everything she does or wears is to make a statement. She comes off as creatively weird, but I kinda like it. If I was an artist like herself in the spotlight for all of America and the rest of the world to see, maybe I wouldn't be as courageous as she but it wouldn't stop me from admiring her. She is by far one of my favorite artists of all time... next to Gwen Stefani of course.
