Vogue Korea 15th Anniversary

naturally i have an appreciation for Korean art, so naturally i'm smitten-ed by this cover featuring model Hye-Jin Han wearing Damyeon. this is one of 15 covers for Vogue Korea's 15th Anniversary (so appropriate), but i particularly like this one above others. it shows the origin of traditional Korean garment, but has a contemporary display. Republic of Korea's fashion has come a long way since 1953, the supposed "end date" of the Korean War. in terms of modern lifestyle, there was little to none at that time. for the past 50-odd years, RoK took many efforts to catch up with the US, the then leading country of the world. today, their lifestyle surpasses ours tremendously and is constantly changing at an incredibly fast pace. it's hard to imagine that a country whose vast majority used to wear traditional garments as everyday-wear only 50 years ago, is now one of the leaders of fashion and art innovation.

i love some of the other covers:

lesson learned...?

"For me it was a simple bar dispute... We were having a beer when he sat beside us. He got aggressive, turned to my friend and said 'Your voice is annoying me, you're speaking too loudly'."

Asked if he had used anti-Semitic language, Virgitti answered:

"Yes, although I'm not convinced now that he really meant them. I don't think he is racist or anti-Semitic. I just think he's very ill.... John Galliano does not deserve this... I would like Mr. Galliano to benefit from this unhappy story by drinking a little less and getting back to making the dresses and shows that he did so well."

stupid people like Philippe make me mad. read more here: Vogue UK.

Emmanuelle Alt's first!

it's her first Vogue Paris cover as editor-in-chief. well done.

platinum-azing

O. M. G. she looks ridiculously incredible with her new color. why didn't she do this before?!

another platinum-azing jaw-dropping cover...

Rubik-cubed

model Anja Rubik may become a new member of my favorite list of models (Sasha Pivovarova, Chanel Iman, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Freja Beha Erichsen... just to name a few). though she may have the simplest face among my faves, she still knows how to walk the runway and pose like we're begging for it. plus, i'm in love with these dresses.

Lady Gaga for Vogue

she's not dead after all. she hasn't made a scene with obscene couture as of late but finally, she graces us with a cover, her first Vogue cover may i remind you. i saw her spread for this issue. unfortunately i only like the cover, and that's only because she's wearing Haider Ackermann. have i gone blahblah for gaga?

caution: color and prints

i usually steer clear for prints and vibrant colors. not that i think it's distasteful, but it's just not for me. i like to stay within the muted solids like black, navy, white, off-white, and the occasional red, and then add accents like gold, silver, or a discussion-worthy jacket. i think i'll tread outside of my comfort zone this Spring. i can't help but be willingly obliged.

keira knightley for vogue italia

she's going to be one of those silver screen sirens who will forever be in my list of the "inspired". some critics say she's bland, but there's something odd about the way her face is shaped and the way her lips move when she's talking. she carries with her a mood that i'm drawn to, and she is the star of most of my favorite movies from the 21st century. i want to get to know her... is it just me? i don't know... but if i were a designer, she'd be my muse.

KATE MOSS IS BOSS

not only did she land the cover of British Vogue's September issue, celebrated her 30th Vogue cover (major accomplishment), and completed 14 collections at Topshop, but she also got a major spread in Paris Vogue for the September issue. she's mobbin.

Classic American Sportswear

Model: Lara Stone
Photographer: Mert & Marcus
Vogue US September 2010

what a stunning photoshoot! i've never seen her look "so american" before. i'm really loving this look on her, though it does age her... reminds me of January Jones in 'Mad Men' and Kate Winslet in 'Revolutionary Road'... both with amazing costumes. now i wanna watch the latter for the umpteenth time this weekend, and again i'm reminded of how behind i am in keeping up with 'Mad Men'. unfortunately, i'll have no time this weekend as i'll be seeing Lady Gaga (eek!!!!) it's going to be yet another glorious weekend. pictures from the concert will be posted, though i haven't figured out what i'll be wearing tomorrow... to go all Gaga or not? hmmm...
