my picks for the 2011 Golden Globes

every year, i look forward to two red carpet events: the Oscars and the Golden Globes. every stylist's dream is to be a part of the behind-the-scenes to each female celebrity worth mentioning. last night was the Golden Globes, and there were many impressive choices and looks this year. you would think it's easy to prepare for a formal event such as this: pick a dress, pick a color, pick the accessories, and get dolled up. no!! it's not that simple. there are hundreds of decisions to be made for one celebrity, and those decisions are not the easiest. keep in mind that there will most definitely be more than one big name who wants to wear look #24 from Oscar de la Renta's Spring collection. most stylists who do their job well allow their clients to walk out of that limo looking more than stunning and no less beautiful. unfortunately, there are some stylists who don't know how to do their job well and they actually let their clients walk out of their limo looking like THAT (what a shame). i selected my favorites from last night, and my were there many.

Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive

this is my favorite dress for the evening. the sequins just gliiiiide down her body and it fits her so well. i especially love that she kept her hair down. it keeps her look young and fresh and ever-so elegant. *sigh. she never fails!!

Emma Stone in Calvin Klein Collection

i wouldn't think a short-sleeved orange creamsicle dress could be worn on the red carpet, but she pulls it off well. i tried to look for a backshot of her in the dress because it's the back that really steals the show, but i couldn't so this will have to do. she looks so cute, and sexy, and effortlessly chic. bravo!

Hailee Steinfeld in Prabal Gurung

i had to look up who miss Steinfeld was, and it turns out she's starring in Matt Damon's new film "True Grit". for such a young lady, she looks appropriately stunning. in my opinion, the younger stars on the red carpet have the hardest time fitting in without looking too mature and too sexy, but elegant enough to look her age without appearing as if she's going to a little girl's tea party. her looks is adorable and so age-fitting. love it!

Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka

as all of Hollywood knows, madame Mirren has a decolletage any man in any age desires. this woman is how old? and she has the sex appeal of how young? no one with that kind of appeal at her age should dare hide it.

Leighton Meester in Burberry

another one of my top favorites! being the new face of Missoni, i assumed she would be wearing a look from the name. but as it so happens, she turned out in Burberry! i never would have imagined her in Burberry, but it's actually a successful pair! i especially like the little tassel clutch thingamabob (i should never use 'thingamabob' to replace the name of an accessory, but i don't know the name!). 

Jayma Mays in Alberta Ferretti

first, my guess was: Chanel??? but no, i was wrong. this dress is stunning. i have a particular love for dresses that drop so elegantly to outline the body in the most flattering way. this is a prime example, and i love t more because it's layered. it appears a little understated, but it speaks volumes in my eyes.

Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier

at first glance, i had no idea who she was. but turns out it's Mandy Moore! why does she look so different? i wish i knew.. anyway i love this dress. as much as i love sleek formal gowns, i have a fascination for tulle and volume, but made in good taste of course. i like this one a lot, especially because of the asymmetrical shoulder. if this were in white, it would be my ideal wedding dress! hehe

Sandra Bullock in Jenny Packham

she's usually a 50/50. i love this dress on her, but i wish her hair wasn't so ugly! what is wrong with those bangs?! i can't not stare... it's so hideous.

today, i just discovered a company that sells children's clothing... but it's no baby GAP. i introduce... Childrensalon. Suri Cruise and Shiloh Jolie-Pitt aren't the only kids with kicks. now even non-celebrity offsprings can run around in rompers by D&G and Burberry, and shoes by Vivienne Westwood and Dior. however, no Chanel or Louis Vuitton. hmmmmmm...

Burberry in color!

for holiday, Burberry has some fun colors out in accessories and things... i am especially loving the umbrellas. i have this odd fascination over umbrellas. umbrellas can either be very boring (basic black or navy) or extremely cool (blue skies and see-through). anything in between is tacky and you'll get sick of it after the first several uses. trust me... there's a black polka dotted red umbrella i bought years ago thinking it was cute because it looked like a lady bug, but after several uses i got tired of it and now i use my very boring london fog navy umbrella. and it's rather large for just one person, really... umbrellas can be so tiresome.

i understand. it doesn't feel like summer in this corner of the country. it's quite depressing. but hey! let's not be debbie downers. it's the season of sunnies, so bust 'em out (cause the sun's still really bright, even on days with an overcast). in the past, i didn't feel very encouraged to buy designer shades; i lost my Michael Kors, my Marc Jacobs, and my Chanel. if you were me, you'd feel the same way. soooo i've been playfully investing in $10 wannabes at Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, and Nordies' very own Brass & Plum. this year, i wanna start investing in the real stuff again. here are some toys and some that are not... which do you like best? i like all of 'em... naturally.
