short, but so cute

obviously, the hair on the left isn't a cut, but it's swept and pulled to make it appear short with a chic pompadour. hair on the right is obviously cut, but it's blunt and "hard". though i love my long tresses and wouldn't trade it for a short cut "just because i can" (i can't), those lucky girls who have the face for such a do should go for it at least once. by the way, this isn't a Pixie. pixies are, in my opinion, really ugly and borderline butch. not to say that either of those looks above are not, but at least it's chic. i like it.

they've taken on another Italian family route, but this time... it's less homely and more ... hmm... vicious? they say the Italians and the Asians are somewhat alike in family affairs. both are extreme by reaction to events and are most definitely loyal to family. i love these photos. it draws a certain kind of emotion that you don't see in all or most ads. and also because i don't have to look at Madonna's botox-injected face. grazi senor Dolce and senor Gabbana!

The Grammys

I was disappointed Lady GaGa didn't win as many as I thought she would have, but at least Beyonce beat out Taylor Swift. Mind you, I don't hate the cute blonde goddess. She's great... for a model, that is. But honestly, that's all I see in her. So she won the award for Album of the Year. Great. She has a huge teen fan-base. But when I saw her performance at the Grammys last night, I had to look away in remorse. I've never heard anyone as pitchy as she was other than that one time when I saw The Starting Line in concert, but then again they were guys trying to sing like they were 14 years old, screaming to reach that high note their post-puberty vocal chords can't possibly reach. (now that I think about it, if she was to audition for American Idol, her clip would be in the "fail" collection.) I saw her perform live on SNL, and on other award shows and it's all the same. She was pitchy and off-key. I felt really bad for Stevie Nicks, who had to perform with her for one number. Ouch. No legendary music artist deserves to perform under such harsh conditions. It was like needles going through my ears.

Buuuuut, on the other hand, she looked absolutely stunning in her Kaufman Franco. She always looks her best for the red carpet and that is pretty much the only reason why I like her; she has great style. Plus she's actually v. cute. Once she comes into her own, I can see her doing a handbag ad for an edgy Louis Vuitton editorial spread in Vogue (think Madonna), or even a raw Marc Jacobs ad photographed by Terry Richardson with minimal makeup and less perfect curls. I love that girl for her blonde curls and sensible style, but as a music artist? Forget about it.

Anyhow, I rounded up some of my favorite dresses and suits for the evening. And on a side note, I was v. impressed by Kings of Leon's attire. It was v. unexpected from a rock band as theirs, and they looked really good.

Men's Spring 2010

Today's beautiful weather proved to me that Spring is just around the corner, waiting for its grand entrance. It might almost be that time to shed your winter coats, store away your cashmere, and pull out the clothes that don't make you look 10 pounds heavier. Hooray! However this time, I want to bring attention to the MEN. As interesting and fascinating women's fashion always was, is, and will be, men's fashion correlates with ours. Considering this is the era of 'unisex apparel', take the time to study the opposite sex's closet and wonder about the potential each piece might have as your own.


Some key trends to have in your wardrobe: the perfect blazer, variety of chinos (in a variety of colors), loafers, and lightweight knit vests & cardigans. I've selected my favorites, as always, so enjoy! Oh, and remember that just because it says "MENS" doesn't mean it's only for the boys... *wink.

2010 GG Red Carpet Favorites

Maggie Gyllenhaal in RM by Roland Mouret

Seems like hues of nude and blush were of popular choice on the red carpet and I'm not surprised. When Dior nude corsets were showcased in the S/S2010 show, it was only the beginning. Wearing shades of the natural gives the appearance of effortless beauty and elegance. Personally I adore nude evening gowns for the red carpet. With the perfect embellishment of diamonds and/or crystals to brighten up a color that may appear subtle and slightly too minimal, and the fit so perfect it hugs your curves in ways no man could ever do (with spanks underneath of course *wink), it is a perfect choice for a confident, timeless, and Grace-Kelly-notable worthy woman. It was so refreshing to see some of these actresses in colors outside of black, gold, and red, as are the typical and expected choice of colors for the big carpet. I absolutely adore all of it.
