"Avatar", James Cameron, & Alexander McQueen

So this movie "Avatar", right? I was a little skeptical amongst the hype, and quite frankly I thought the previews looked really dumb showing blue aliens co-existing with humans. It's so Sci-Fi, so fantasty-like, too un-real.... basically it's not my kind of flick. So naturally, I had no intention in seeing the film that James Cameron spent $500 billion on, or somewhere around that figure, which majority of it looked like it was CG or CGI.... Whichever is more correct. Whatever. I didn't like "Titanic". I didn't like "Terminator 2". I didn't like any of his 'Alien' movies. So why would I like this film, more or less want to spend $12 to see it? Even if it did get 4 Golden Globe nominations and 9 Critics Choice Award nominations (it's rigged most of the time anyway)? A film about aliens?! Of course I wouldn't. Sooooo when one of my buddies, who had already watched it last week, wanted to see it the second time with me and a few other friends, I was hesitant to say no because I didn't want to hurt his precious feelings; he seemed really really excited about it, kinda like when I get excited about a Nora Ephron film and/or novel, or a Metric concert, or like that one time I first walked into the Marc Jacobs store and got to touch and feel all of his beautiful clothes firsthand....sigh ............. and he's kind of sensitive in a childish kind of way... hehe JUST KIDDING. And I was definitely hesitant to say yes because ... well.. you know why. So because he's a really nice guy who had always been down to do whatever meant me having a good time, I said... "OK. But only if myotherfriend'snamehere agrees to watch it too." And then even myotherfriend'snamehere was hesitant to tell him that she didn't really want to (because of the whole sensitive thing... poor guy haha). So thennnnnnnn he told me it's showing in 3D. I thought about it and said, "OK FINE, but only because I love 3D movies." ("UP" and "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" is soooooo awesome in 3D I lurrrrrrrve it. I think I want to buy a 3D TV............ when it's more affordable.)

Now that I've watched the 3-hour long multi-billion dollar film, with approximately three, four, seven different climaxes that trick you to think it's almost over only to drop down again for another rising climax that make you start to think it may never ever end (it's a tease I swear), and with only one major actress recognizable (Sigourney Weaver), what do I think of it? I LOVED IT! Oh my gosh it is the best film I've seen this year. HANDS. DOWN. I'm not even exaggerating. It's a film everyone has to see in 3D. This is one of those films that blow you away. Almost every scene was jaw-dropping effing amazing. The story-line was pretty typical, but Cameron played it out in a very clever way. The story goes in and out of Pandora that makes it seem like there are two different realities, and that's what makes the story really interesting. Another factor is the color scheme of Pandora. I instantly fell in love... and I'll show you exactly why.

Exhibit A:

Avatar

Exhibit B:

Alexander McQueen

I know what you're thinking and you can just shove it because I don't care. How could I not make a connection from the film to fashion?!?! Come on... it's me. The resemblance is uncanny!! Throughout the entire movie I kept thinking about Alexander McQueen's Spring/Summer 2010 collection and how all of a sudden what didn't make sense (his collection) suddenly does! How in the world does this happen?! I can't find solid proof that McQueen got his inspiration from Cameron's new film, but I found one source that thought the same. (Click on the pink word "source" if you haven't figured that out by now.) The colors in "Avatar" are stunning and actually really, really cool. It's like a black light party, and everything you touch lights up for a brief magical moment. It truly is... magical. haha, for lack of better words.

The storyline's great, Sam Worthington's Australian accent is hot, the Avatars are cute rather than ugly or creepy so it's not unpleasant to look at them, and most of all the colors are an eye-gasm. For once I'm impressed with James Cameron. I'm probably the only one who isn't a fan of his work and I know I'm gonna get a lot of crap for saying that I didn't like "Titanic". But this one actually makes it to my list of favorites. And I publicly apologize to my friend, Peter, for putting this movie down before giving it a chance. And for publicly stating that you're sensitive.

Just an extra....

This is Lady GaGa in her 'Bad Romance' music video wearing Alexander McQueen.... love her...

And this is Daphne Guinness also wearing Alexander McQueen... she's pretty much the only person who's worn anything from his S/S 2010 collection off the runway... publicly. Kudos to her.

  1. You're right, the film Avatar and McQueen's collection totally resonate with one another. I guess this is what you can call the "collective consciousness."
