Oh how I love his work. Behind those Jimmy Choo ads and being well-known for shooting celebrities and famous faces in the likes of President Obama, Britney Spears, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, and even Lil' Wayne... Richardson is a photographer who has a way of showing the essence of that person without even exposing very much. I've been a huge fan of his ever since I saw one of his photo shoots in Vogue back in 2006. I remember it vaguely today, but I distinctively remember model Coco Rocha and that it was in French Vogue. I was so used to seeing shots done in what was obviously a photo shoot studio with the soft lighting in almost every magazine, but when I saw that particular photo, it was eye-opening. It appeared almost amateur-like but I was intrigued by the use of shadow and the light exposure. It took a while for me to find it, but alas... here it is!
To my naive and amateur eyes, it was fresh, raw, vulgar, but one of the greatest and inspirtational work I've ever seen. In my perfect and fabulous fantasy world, I am a genius photographer slash creative fashion stylist slash savvy chief editor of Vogue slash Marc Jacobs' muse. In this reality, I'm nowhere close to any of those awe-inspiring personas. But I can always dream, right? :)
