Since I was a little girl, I had my hair braided by my mom up until the age of 10. It was one of the biggest hair trends back then, and it was very useful when I went to my ballet class straight after school. It seems the braid is making another comeback for 2010!! This year, it's time to experiment and have some fun with your hair. Don't be such a bore! Leave the flat iron aside and push the curlers away. It's time to give your hair a break! Instead, opt for a very easy breezy braid that's suitable for the office, or for brunch with the in-laws, and it makes great waves for the evening.
For the past week or so, I've been testing it out myself and it's been really fun and I've gotten great feedback from co-workers and friends. Since I have to get up really early for work every morning, time is extremely precious to me (especially my sleep time). After a 10-15 min shower (depends on how tired/slow/brain-dead I am..) I comb voluminizing mousse into my hair (I use TREsemme's 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse) then I let it air-dry for about 5 minutes as I do my make-up. There are two ways to do this braid: 1) French braid it from the mid-top down or 2) A regular braid from the nape of your neck down. Since I have short layers, I have to do a french braid from the top down but I keep it loose and messy in a tidy kind of way (haha). As I get to the nape of my neck, I shift it over my right shoulder and continue from there. I'm a pro when it comes to braiding so this only takes me roughly 2-4 minutes to do. After I tie the bottom with a hair-tye, I lightly spritz my hair with any hair spray that isn't used for maximum hold or anything hardcore like that. This isn't for everyone, but if your hair doesn't dry as quickly as you want it to, like mine, then give your hair a quick dry with the blow dryer before you head for the door. This helps set the hair spray in place. If you have evening plans after work, keeping the braid is most definitely stylish and trendy but if you prefer letting your hair loose to kick back and relax over drinks, loosen the braid and give your head a little shake to naturally let it fall in place. Your hair will have a very fun and pretty wave that curlers can't achieve.
